Non-negotiable's

Rebellious People

Do you find yourself to be a rebellious person?  This may seem like a simple, and a bit ridiculous of a question because of our sinful nature.  However, Romans 6: 18 "...having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness."  When thinking about this passage we have been set free from sin through Christ's death because of which we should be slaves of righteousness.  Are you a slave of righteousness?

Isaiah 30: 15-16

  1. "Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food." Romans 14:20
Speaking of rebellion, I think it is easy to think that we have all this freedom as Christians - which we do - but with great freedom comes great responsibility. We should allow God's spirit and the state of our brothers' or sisters' walk with Him to dictate how we act and the choices we make in regards to areas where we have freedom.

  2. I'm with Nicole on Romans 14:20 - Responsibility. Do we really take responsibility on whole heartedly? We have a tendency to think that our rights our first, which takes away from what God needs us to be for others. Just because we don't struggle doesn't mean we know the true hearts of any other. I don't like to chance it.

The Holy Spirit has always left me with the feeling that if I'm not sure, then I don't do!!!

I think with this responsibility again it comes back to total dependence on God - Isaiah 30:15 in the message says....
Your strength will come from settling down
    in complete dependence on me.

For me with that dependence life just seems to be a bit easier, so that when my responsibilities seem tough, He provides me a way to handle them with his grace and love.

I really don't know how people do life without God????

    Just my thoughts!

  3. In Romans 14 verses 17-19 and verse 23 stood out to me.

17 For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of LIVING A LIFE of goodness and peace and joy IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. 18 If you serve Christ with this attitude, YOU WILL PLEASE GOD, and others will approve of you, too. 19 So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

And then in verse 23 it says we need to follow our convictions and if we do anything we believe is not right, we are sinning.

To answer your question Ture... Usually my initial desire is to rebel, its not easy to live by the Holy Spirit and I know that I sin just by not listening not even knowing it.

  4. The verses that Jessica mentioned also stood out to me. Verses 17-19 seem to go back to the principle of "being, not doing." We are called to "live a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."

Also, the last part of verse 23 convicted me. "But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and EVERYTHING THAT DOES NOT COME FROM FAITH IS SIN."

Based on this last part, I would have to say that I am a rebellious person. Especially when it comes to worrying. Jesus commanded us not to worry about our lives in Matthew 6, and I constantly find myself standing convicted by that passage.

  5. We re always asking ourselves how can we live for God? I know i am. I also know I complicate it in order to satisfy my sinfull nature. I can see the Romans arguing about what is good and not good. To eat or whatever really. Paul is like you are missing the point. We should be serving one another and verse 23 brings it home. If we doubt anything it IS a sin. We serve a God of truth and He does not waiver like us and He has given us His Spirit freely to filter through our flesh. It is not complicated we just make it that way because we choose to. Like Isaiah says we choose to run away. It is our nature. But further in Isaiah 30:18 God says He longs to be gracious to us. We just have to be humble enough to listen and not think that our flesh is truth and we know the way.
